Camping is a staple of boy scouts and chances are if you decide to join boy scouts you are going to do quite a lot of it, camping can be a great but it can also be a bad experience if you don't have the right gear or don't have any experience, so here are some tips and tricks regarding camping.
Probably the most important piece of equipment you can bring is your tent. A tent gives you a space where you can put your stuff and keep you warm and safe. If you don't bring a tent you will not have a great experience.

A sleeping bag is definitely one of the most important things to bring especially if you are expecting colder weather. Always bring a sleeping bag that is 20-30 degrees below what the expected temperature for example if it's going to be freezing (32 degrees) bring a 0 degree bag if you want to feel comfortable.

If there is going to be rough or rocky terrain at your camp spot make sure to bring a camping pad to sleep on even if you are expecting it to be a nice campsite a camping pad can insulate you from the ground so you will be warm. Also a pillow is nice but you don't need it.

A good backpack can be a huge advantage. The fewer bags or backpacks on a trip the less you can lose if you can pack all of your gear into one backpack or duffel bag. Definitely go with that option.
A stove will usually be supplied by your troop but if you decide to do backpacking you should probably invest in a backpacking stove. on a normal campout you wont need to worry about bringing your own stove.
